Van Gogh was a great writer ( read, please, his letters to his beloved brother Théo ), was a great preacher ( read about his service at Borinage in the Irvin Stone´s novel " Lust for Life" ), was a great painter, of course, and was a great... tragic. When I see that last landscape - " Wheat Field with Crows " - painted before the fatal shot of the suicide, I imagine the despair of that brillant and misunderstood lonely man. Because this I painted this little canvas with the great work in the easel, the gun abandoned with the palette, the real wheat field without colours, the blood, and the... enormous sorrow when we hear the cry "Oh God!!!"

I learned of his tragic story when I came to live in the Borinage, walked the same fields he walked, and saw the coal mines where he preached and tended to the poor and oppressed.
I live near the house where he finally decided to become a painter, after all the many tragedies and failures of his life. There is where I learned of the life he lived, and not just of the paintings we all know.
This painting is such a perfect reflection of the pain of this outstanding man, tormented in a life of failures, giving all of himself to anything he did, and seeing his effort end in nothing every time.
This work is such an excellent tribute to his memory! Thank you for sharing it with us.
